The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 301 calls from Monday Aug. 19, to midnight Aug. 26, 2018. Of those calls, 123 occurred over the weekend, Aug. 24 to Aug. 26.
Below are some highlights from Friday Aug. 24 to midnight Sunday, Aug. 26:
Man assaulted downtown
A man was taken to hospital following a report of a person getting jumped on the 4500 block of Lakelse Avenue. Around 12:25 p.m. on Aug. 25, 2018, Terrace RCMP arrived on scene as one person was being taken to hospital. Police spoke to those in the area and to the injured man. All were uncooperative with the investigation.
Couple arrested, warrants executed
A report of an indecent act led to the arrest of two people and the execution of two warrants.
On Friday Aug. 24, around 7:20 p.m., police were called to a business on Lazelle Avenue for a report of two intoxicated people engaging in sexual activity in public. A couple matching the description was located nearby. A man and a woman were arrested for being intoxicated in public. The woman was additionally found to have two warrants for failing to comply with probation.
Both were lodged in cells to sober up safely. The woman received a Promise to Appear in Court when she was released in relation to the warrants.
Domestics
Police received approximately six calls involving domestic disturbances over the weekend.
Of the domestics, two were verbal and involved police speaking with those present.
Two other reports related to a man breaching his no-contact conditions in place due to a previous domestic. The man was arrested on Aug. 24, and released on a Promise to Appear in Court, then arrested again on Aug. 26 for breaching the no-contact conditions again. He was held for court for the second breach.
On Aug. 25, a man was arrested for domestic assault. On Aug. 26, another man was arrested for assault with a weapon.
Impaired driving
• A man lost this license for 90 days after he was stopped by police for having no taillights and failing to stop for a stop sign. Around 11 p.m. on Friday Aug. 24, police were patrolling Keith Avenue near Tetrault Street when the infractions were observed and the vehicle was stopped. Upon speaking with the driver, police administered a roadside breath test, which registered a fail. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver received a 90-day driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act. A violation ticket for failing to stop and a notice of order to fix the taillights were also issued.
• A man received a seven-day driving prohibition after leaving a business in Thornhill early Saturday morning. Around 2:50 a.m., Aug. 25, police stopped a vehicle near Hwy 16 and 37. A roadside breath test was administered and registered a ‘Fail’, followed by a ‘Warn’. A vehicle impound and driving prohibition were issued under the Motor Vehicle Act.
• A driver received a 24-hour driving prohibition for being under the influence of marijuana. On Aug. 25, around 11:30 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Halliwell Avenue. A strong odor of marijuana was present. Police conducted a standardized field sobriety test and determined the driver to be under the influence of the drug. Marijuana located was seized for destruction. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to display his N.
• Just after midnight on Sunday Aug. 26, a man pulled over for speeding ended up with a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound. Police were parked near Ferry Island on Hwy 16 when a blue pickup truck was observed driving well over the 50 km/hr posted speed limit. Upon talking to the driver, a roadside breath test was administered, which resulted in Fail readings, illustrating a blood alcohol content exceeding .08.
