Local RCMP officers will increase the number of tickets they’ll be handing out this summer but in a good way.

Instead of writing people up for blowing through stop signs or for speeding, officers will be look for young people engaging in what the local RCMP detachment is calling healthy and positive lifestyle choices and rewarding them with tickets that can be redeemed for snacks such as ice cream, chocolate bars and chips.

“Some of the things the Terrace RCMP members will be looking for include wearing a bike helmet, volunteering in the community, assisting an elderly person, or physical activity,” said Constable Kelly Cates.

The campaign begins in June and runs throughout July and August.

Young people receiving tickets will also receive an entry into a draw for additional prizes to be awarded at the end of the campaign.

So far the RCMP have lined up Staples, McDonald’s, Wild Bike, Fish Tales, Bubble Land, Thornhill Meat Market, Copperside and Subway as sponsors.

The detachment is looking for additional participants and more information can be had by contacting Cates at 250-638-7400 by April 30, 2022.
