The Terrace RCMP is partnering with emergency service providers and businesses in the community to bring back the bike rodeo on June 11.

Cst Kelly Cates, community police officer for the Terrace RCMP, said the bike rodeo has been an annual favourite for kids and emergency service workers alike.

“We unfortunately had to cancel it the last couple of years. So we are getting back at it this year,” Cates said.

The event teaches kids the importance of bike safety while also introducing them to emergency service workers who are there to help them.

Cates said they’re hoping to have ‘all hands on deck’ for the event including fire department staff, paramedics, Canadian Rangers, conservation officers, the Northern Brain Injury Association and Terrace Search and Rescue.

“It’s really just a hands-on, interactive event designed to teach children fundamental biking skills, road safety, helmet safety and different rules of the road,” Cates said.

“It’s going to be a great, positive community event to pull people out of their homes after having a couple of years of not so many events happening.”

Kids can expect to receive goody bags, snacks, and a chance to win prizes. They should arrive with a suitable helmet and bicycle to use during the event. The free event is geared toward children of all ages.

The bike rodeo will happen at the Skeena Mall parking lot from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Registration is upon arrival the day of the rodeo. If you would like to donate to the bike rodeo you can contact Cst. Kelly Cates at 250-638-7400 or kelly.cates@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
