Coast Mountains School District 82 (CMSD82) has hired a new superintendent to replace the retiring Janet Meyer this August.

On March 18, the school district announced that it had selected Aaron Callaghan for the role. Callaghan has 27 years of experience in the education field, and is the current director of programs and student services at Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education in Nova Scotia.

“I am both excited and grateful for the opportunity to return to B.C. and serve the learners and families of School District 82 as superintendent. Student success, well-being and inclusionary practices will continue to be at the forefront of our efforts as we implement the board’s strategic plan,” Callaghan said in a media release.

Callaghan holds bachelor’s degrees in science and education from Mount Allison University, and a master’s degree in education in educational leadership and administration from St. Francis Xavier University. His first career position was with the Peace River North school district in B.C.

“In selecting Aaron as superintendent of schools and CEO, our board of education recognized the outstanding experiences that he will bring to the position and in particular the commitment he expressed to the implementation of the board’s strategic plan,” Margaret Warcup, board chair, said in a media release.

Callaghan will assume the role of superintendent on Aug. 1, 2022.
