SPRING may have trouble sprunging this year but the winter's accumulation of litter is still evident now that the snow has gone.

And that means it's time for the annual garbathon which takes place this Sunday starting at noon by registering at McDonald's.

This year the effort has expanded with the addition of the SkeenaWild Conservation Trust to the garbathon host list along with the Greater Terrace Beautification Society and co-host the City of Terrace.

"Pick up bags, pick a site, or tell us where you are going," says Chris Hansen from the beautification society.

"Your own gloves always work better but we always have some surgical gloves on hand. Bring litter back to McDonald's or let us know where the pile of bags are left," she adds.

Some people do their collecting first before coming to McDonald's. Geier Waste Services is providing a large dumpster.

The addition of SkeenaWild this year recognizes Rivers Day and the importance of keeping rivers and streams free of litter and garbage.

Participants receive a treat coupon from McDonald's and this year there's a salmon barbecue at Ferry Island beginning at 4 pm and lasting until 6 pn featuring a prize of a Hawkair trip.

"Must be in attendance to win the trip ticket," Hansen notes.
