Workers are now spreading sand by hand because the city’s two sidewalk plows are still broken down.

And they’ll likely be out of service for awhile yet, says city communications officer Tyler Clarke.

“The parts might be here next week for one of the machines while the other machine’s parts are looking to be longer than that unfortunately,” Clarke said the morning of Jan. 6.

“In the meantime, we have been out hand sanding the higher foot traffic areas. It’s a much slower pace of accomplishment, but we’re doing the best we can with what we have to work with currently.”

Trouble began just after the heavy pre-Christmas snowfall when one and then both of the machines broke down.

Parts for one machine were then ordered while the second machine was put back in service only to go through yet more breakdowns.
