The City of Terrace and the CUPE Local 2012 worker’s union have ratified a new five-year collective agreement leading to a nearly 3 per cent increase in wages. CUPE represents approximately 110 city workers.

The agreement includes wage increases of 3.5 per cent in 2022, 3 per cent in 2023 and 2024, 2.5 per cent in 2025, and 2026, for an average of 2.9 per cent annually.

Other highlights include improvements to medical and family benefits that have not been made public.

Union president Gurpreet Jaswal said the agreement “provides continued stability” for the union and the city.

“Both parties feel we have reached a satisfactory agreement, while taking into account the economic times we are facing, not only locally, but on a global level,” Jaswal said, adding that the agreement was supported by union members.

Terrace Mayor Carol Leclerc said council appreciates city employees and they are “pleased to be able to come together to recognize their contributions” through the agreement.

Negotiations started April 4th and the agreement was ratified June 14th. The new agreement is backdated to Jan. 1, 2022 and runs to December 31, 2026. City employee salaries ranged from $17.12 to $40.62 hourly as of 2021 before the previous agreement expired Dec. 31, 2021.

The city said details of the actual negotiations and dialogue are being kept private.
