EIGHT bids ranging from $219,000 to $755,757 have been submitted in response to the city's tender to remove asbestos and demolish the city-owned former Terrace Co-op retail complex on Greig Ave.
Prince George's Snaring River Holdings Ltd, o/a Western Thermal and Demolition, came in with the lowest bid of $219,000. The only other bid to come in under $300,000 was Clearview Grinding Ltd. at $274,000.
Eby & Sons Construction Ltd. put in a bid of $327,225, followed by NAPP Enterprises Ltd.'s bid of $331,000.
The last four bids came in over $500,000 – Quantum Murray LP's bid's was $587,200, while Farko Contracting Ltd.'s was close behind at $589,000.
Bear Creek Contracting Ltd.'s bid was $605,547.50, and Billabong Road and Bridge Maintenance Inc.'s bid was the highest, at $755,757.25.
The city has been under increasing pressure to do something with the Co-op property which it bought in late 2005 for $1 million.
The tenders will be considered at the July 25 council meeting.
The city does have $375,000 it could put towards demolition. It's a provincial grant the city received for its Davis Ave. road construction project after the city financed the work with its own money.
Council has for several years listed a resolution to the Co-op property as one of its priorities but has never had the money to move forward.
