Council passed a resolution approving a request by Telus to construct a 60 metre self-supported tower at its facility at 5215 Keith Ave.

Telus made a presentation to council last November and at that time, mentioned a 40 metre tower but discussed a taller tower that would enhance coverage and provide better service to more residents than the 40 metre tower, said director of development services David Block to council Jan. 23.

City staff requested information on the increase in coverage between a 40 metre tower and a 60 metre tower.

Telus’s coverage information said that the taller tower would “improve indoor and outdoor cellular coverage along the west end of Hwy 16, the residential area around Northwest Community College, the residential area on the southside in the Graham Ave. area [and] the community of Kitsumkalum.”

Telus notified and sent information to the adjacent property owners and no objections were raised and no comments were received, said Block.

Telus didn’t give a timeline.
