A HEARING to determine whether a dog will be destroyed for allegedly biting three boys continues today in Terrace Provincial Court.
Prosecutor Troy DeSouza and defence lawyer Ken Anderson continued to question various witnesses including Const. Brian Lofroth, who took possession of Cain after the incident last Easter weekend and owner Paul MacNeil.
Dog trainer Kelly Ruff, who assessed Cain after he was taken to the Thornhill animal shelter, was due to testify later this afternoon.
Judge Brian Neal may make a decision today or reserve it for another date.
On April 5, 2012, Cain allegedly attacked three boys, tearing the pants of one, biting the arm of a second boy and knocking down and standing on the back of a third boy in lower Thornhill, reported police at that time.
The dog was seized and taken to the Terrace animal shelter as it was a weekend and the Thornhill animal shelter wasn't open, said police. He was taken to the Thornhill Shelter the following week.
Bylaw officers sought an order of destruction and court dates were originally set for December 10 and 11 and the hearing was ordered to continue today.
In the meantime, Cain's owner, Paul MacNeil, and supporters asked for the canine to be moved to the Kitimat Humane Society where he could be rehabilitated and where it was believed that conditions were more conducive to a long-term stay in a shelter.
The dog remained in the Thornhill animal shelter.
There had been talk of a pro-Cain demonstration at the courthouse this morning but none materialized.
