A vandal gained access to the multi-business building on the corner of Lazelle Ave. and Emerson St on Friday, July 15th and caused thousands of dollars in water damage.
"The private businesses and government business in that building not only suffered general flooding damage, some important data and personal pictures were also lost due to the flooding," said Const. Angela Rabut of the Terrace RCMP.
The vandal may have gained access to the building during regular office hours and hid when it shut down for the day. Sinks and toilets were plugged with toilet paper and then taps were turned on. The water was running for more than 12 hours.
There was extensive water damage to adjacent offices on the second floor, mainly flooring and carpeting, and extensive damage to offices below. Ceiling tiles were soaked and falling down causing water to pour onto office furniture and equipment.
Damage is estimated to be more than $10,000.
The building houses Service Canada, Volunteer Terrace, and the Business Development Bank of Canada as well as other financial services and a law firm.
"The people running and working in these businesses are part of our community. Incidents like this hurt financially and violate a person’s sense of security," said Const. Rabut.
