Beacon aids in rescue of snowmobilers

New Hazelton RCMP responded to 79 calls during the week of Jan. 3 to Jan. 9

January 5, a yellow snowmobile was driving erratically on Hwy 62 in Gitanmaax. Upon seeing police, the snowmobile turned into the Two Mile area and drove off. Police are seeking information on the operator of the snowmobile.

January 7, Police received a spot 911 beacon alert from a location north of the Kispiox Valley Rd. A male and female had become stranded in deep snow after their ATV was disabled. They were subsequently located by a friend and extracted from the back country.

January 8, Police attended a single vehicle collision on Highway 16 at Mudd Creek. The vehicle had been westbound when it lost control and crossed the centre line. There were no injuries.

January 8, a distraught female was threatening to jump from a window. Police were able to secure her without injury, and transport her to the hospital for a medical assessment.

January 9, an intoxicated male was found stumbling in the streets of Gitsegukla. Upon arrest, he resisted police and pepper spray was deployed. Charges are pending.
