TELUS STORYHIVE Voices is back for its fifth year of supporting new, diverse and emerging digital content creators to share their stories with the world!
What story will you tell through STORYHIVE Voices?
Since 2013, content creators from across B.C. and Alberta have been sharing their passions and telling local stories from small towns and underrepresented communities, all with the support of TELUS STORYHIVE. These stories have sparked conversations, shifted narratives and helped launch the careers of emerging content creators.
As STORYHIVE launches applications for its fifth annual STORYHIVE Voices program, they’re looking for new and emerging digital content creators, as well as STORYHIVE alumni, to share fresh stories and spark community conversations.
“We are thrilled to launch the fifth season of the TELUS STORYHIVE Voices program,” says Erin Shaw, STORYHIVE Northern B.C. Territory Manager. “It’s been amazing to witness the diverse range of video series brought to life through this program. The talent within our communities continue to inspire us, showcasing the power of local storytelling.”

With support from TELUS STORYHIVE, Sara Jones has been able to expand her creative horizons and explore new opportunities within her community.

When Sara Jones applied for TELUS STORYHIVE Voices in 2023, she was grappling with questions about her identity and future. She knew she had a creative spirit but lacked the confidence to embrace a creative lifestyle, feeling her dreams were "too far out of reach."
“Ever since I was young, I used to use the family home camera to make silly videos. As I got older, I stopped creating and filming,” Sara says. “Then, when I started to experience some challenges in life, I needed a creative outlet again to help me process those challenges.”
After years of feeling discouraged by her lack of formal training and education in the film industry, Sara had a chance encounter with another STORYHIVE content creator.
“I met an individual who was working on a STORYHIVE project themselves and they hired me to help with filming,” Sara says. “I read up about STORYHIVE and felt like it was the perfect opportunity. So, I applied and to my surprise, I was selected to have my project funded!”
Sara chose to centre her six-episode series on her family’s history, with her mother being a Sixties Scoop survivor—an experience that led to her family overcoming many obstacles.
During her time with STORYHIVE, Sara was paired with a STORYHIVE Program Manager and was provided with a range of resources designed to help content creators share their stories.
“I really enjoyed working with STORYHIVE. As somebody who is a self-taught video editor, producer and storyteller, it was nice to have a team of people available to reach out and ask questions. I particularly liked how participants in the program were assigned a Program Manager,” Sara says.
She adds that she felt seen, heard and supported throughout the process and she credits the STORYHIVE team and community for giving her the motivation and determination needed to complete her project.
For aspiring STORYHIVE applicants, Sara encourages them to apply and see what happens. “When they say ‘the program is for emerging creators,’ they mean it!” she adds.
“STORYHIVE will help and support you along the way. They gave me the confidence I needed as a storyteller. Since completing my project, my creativity spark has been blazing! I just applied for the Video Podcast program through STORYHIVE, so I’m hoping to begin another project very soon,” Sara says.
“I’ve also been given other opportunities as a result of the experience I gained from STORYHIVE. I completed a program with TikTok Canada and the National Screen Institute, which has given me leverage when it comes to creating content for social media platforms. I create videos daily and find joy in expressing who I am through video content.”
Sara encourages future content creators to “be authentic, be yourself, and don’t be afraid to show people who you are,” adding, “In the end, that’s what truly helped me connect with my audience.”
