The Terrace River Kings are proving to be equally comfortable on the road as they are at home, securing big wins in Vanderhoof and Kitimat.
Terrace crushed the Nechako Northstars at the Vanderhoof Municipal Arena on Nov. 13, winning 8-3.
Goaltender Marshall Wilson started his first game and picked up the win, stopping 41 of 44 shots. Colton Braid and Ian Chrystal each scored twice. Robert Orrey, Brandon Onstein, Sam Reinbolt and Lane Perry also found the net for Terrace.
The River Kings were scheduled to take on the Hazelton Wolverines Nov. 14, but that game was postponed due to the number of COVID-19 cases in the area, according to the team’s Facebook page.
Then on Nov. 20, Terrace visited the Ice Demons at the Tamitik Arena in Kitimat and secured a 7-2 win in a game that saw a total of 182 penalty minutes.
Kitimat’s Logan Carrita was given a 10 minute misconduct penalty at 9:23 in the third period. Seconds later, eight players racked up fighting and misconduct majors including Terrace’s Chapen Leblond, Colton Braid, Ryan Roseboom, and Brandon Onstein. Kitimat’s Perry Robinson, Parker Evans-Campbell, Colton McCarthy and Maddox Medeiros were penalized.
Prior to that Terrace was already leading in the game 7-1 after scoring three goals in the first period, two in the second and two in the third.
With the Central Interior Hockey League regular season schedule nearly at the halfway point, the River Kings have scored five or more goals in each of their games, netting no fewer than seven goals in each of their last three. Ryan Roseboom leads the league in points with six goals and 10 assists.
Not only have the River Kings boasted a high-octane offence, the team has given up the fewest goals in the league. Goaltender Tyran Hunter has started all but one game, recording a league best 1.80 goals against average.
Terrace’s next game is in Prince Rupert on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. The River Kings next play at home on Dec. 18 versus the Hazelton Wolverines.
