The Terrace River Kings dominated CIHL hockey action over the weekend, starting with a 5-2 victory over the Nechako Northstars at Fort Forum Arena on Nov. 23 and closing with a 3-1 win against the Smithers Steelheads at Smithers Civic Centre on Nov. 24.
In Fort St. James, Terrace seized control midway through the first period. Carter Shannon opened the scoring at 11:10, firing an unassisted shot past Northstars goalie Damien Ketlo. Four minutes later, Trevor Andrews doubled the lead at 15:12, converting a setup by Colton Braid and Teighan Harrison to end the first period 2-0.
Nechako countered early in the second period, with Lane Goodwin narrowing the gap to 2-1 at 1:18. Terrace responded with authority, as Ryan Roseboom extended the lead at 11:01, assisted by Mason Richey, and Brandon Onstein pushed the score to 4-1 at 16:55, with assists from Connor Onstein and Colton Braid.
Teighan Harrison cemented the River Kings’ victory at 5:01 of the final period, scoring with help from Joel Findlay and Connor Onstein. Although Goodwin netted his second goal for Nechako, Terrace’s defence held firm to secure the 5-2 win.
The River Kings carried their momentum into Smithers the following night. Colin Bell struck early at 5:38 to give Terrace the lead. A hooking penalty on Smithers’ Ian Chrystal opened a powerplay opportunity, and Colton Braid capitalized at 13:42, closing the first period at 2-0.
Ryan Roseboom added to Terrace’s tally just 29 seconds into the second period, making it 3-0. Smithers broke through late in the third with Brendan Moore’s powerplay goal at 17:27, following a cross-checking penalty on Brandon Onstein. Despite the late effort, the Steelheads couldn’t narrow the deficit further, and Terrace secured the 3-1 win.
