Three competitors from the Terrace Atlantis Tae Kwon Do club were in Quebec City at national championships last month and one came home with a gold medal and an invitation to try for the sport's national team.
Maggie Rogers won her medal for sparring in her weight class of 44 kilograms.
Michael Kharchenko and Memphis Bob rounded out the Terrace contingent and each came home with a bronze medal for sparring, said Cody Skog from Terrace Atlantis Tae Kwon Do.
"We usually do well and we did this time with the achievement being Maggie getting that invitation," said Skog.
And having three competitors come home with three medals further establishes Skog's approach to the sport.
"You really want to set goals. It keeps them interested. My goal is always to get them to a black belt at the national level," he said.
Locals will have a chance to see Skog's athletes in action June 28 when Atlantis Tae Kwon Do hosts the B.C. Cup, a gathering of the sport's competitors from around the province.
Skog is anticipating 150 competitors alone will be in Terrace for the one day tournament at the Sportsplex.
"It's $5 to get in. I guarantee you'll see someone you know at the competition," he said.
Action begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. beginning with younger white belt competitions leading up to adult black belt competitions to close off the day.
