The new program will be held at Hidber Arena.

Want to learn how to play hockey and are too intimidated to join an adult recreation league? An intro to hockey program has opened up for adults new to the game.

Beginning Jan. 6, 2025, Terrace's Hidber Arena will host this program from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m on Mondays until Mar. 17, 2025. The basics of skating, passing, shooting and the rules of the game will be taught in a fun, welcoming environment.

"The head instructor is Brendan Genaille, who holds a NCCP Community Sport Coach Level 1 & 2, who has been involved with coaching Minor Hockey for the past 5 years," wrote Tyler Clarke, programs supervisor for the City of Terrace.

"The program is a great opportunity for newcomers to the community, those with kids starting out in minor hockey and they’re wanting to get involved with the sport along with their kids, or even those who just never had the opportunity growing up to play and want to try it out," he wrote.

At minimum, people must be able to stand on skates on the ice but the instructor will help with improving skating skills for hockey.

Registration online by Dec. 10. People must bring their own gear.

"If you’re thinking about giving it a try, but unsure, feel free to call the Sportsplex at 250-615-3000 and ask for more information on the program."
