Telkwa RV park reopens with new name, new owners

The campground has been closed since 2022 following the tragic death of one of its owners

The Telkwa RV park, a familiar resting place for those traveling between Prince George and Prince Rupert, has reopened its gates under new ownership.

Marisca and Devin Bakker have taken up the role of stewardship, introducing fresh energy into the stopover spot which has been closed since end of 2022.

Previously known as Fort Telkwa Riverfront RV Campground, it has been renamed Harmony Ridge RV Park and Guesthouse.

The park’s fate had been uncertain following the passing of its previous owner in August 2022, leaving locals and frequent visitors affected by the prospect of its permanent closure. However, the Bakkers saw an opportunity not just for a new business venture but also as a means to contribute positively to their community.

“We saw a good opportunity and we wanted another adventure,” shared Marisca Bakker. “And we thought it would be good for the community to have this right, to have it open.”

Situated along the highway to Alaska, the RV park has historically served as a popular midway point for travelers embarking on the northern journey. Marisca emphasized its strategic location, stating, “It’s right on the highway halfway between Prince George and Prince Rupert. So, a lot of people like to stay there when they’re en route to Alaska. It’s a great spot to stop.”

Since reopening, the park has already garnered significant attention and praise from the local community.

“Since we started telling people that we’re open, we’ve had a lot of great feedback from people in the community, and a lot of people are very excited that it is open again,” Marisca said.

Travelers can make reservations at Fort Telkwa’s Harmony Ridge RV Park either online or by phone. Drop-ins are also welcomed.

Editor’s note: In the interest of full disclosure, Marisca Bakker is also a part-time journalist working for Black Press Media at the Smithers Interior News.
