Terrace RCMP responded to 189 calls between Sept. 6 and Sept. 12, 2024. Below are a few highlights.
Weapons and ammo seized during impaired investigation
On Friday, Sept. 6, an officer conducted a traffic stop after observing a pickup truck that was swerving, braking, and accelerating. The officer immediately observed boxes of ammunition, empty beer cans and drug paraphernalia in the front seat.
In the backseat, the officer found multiple rifles and a shotgun that were insecure, one of which was loaded. Knives and additional ammo were also found. The man operating the truck was not impaired, but his weapons and ammo were seized. RCMP will be forwarding the results of the investigation to BC Prosecution Services for consideration of charges.
Terrace bylaw officer assaulted
On Saturday, Sept. 7, RCMP responded to a report of an assault on a Terrace bylaw officer in downtown Terrace. The bylaw officer reported that a man was uncooperative while the officer was trying to do his job. The man began assaulting the officer, but the officer fought back in self-defense. The man was located and arrested for assault. He was later released when sober, with a court date. The bylaw officer sustained minor injuries.
Hitchhiker arrested
RCMP received a report on the night of Friday, Sept. 6 of a man and woman who were on the shoulder of Highway 16. It was dark and their dark clothes made it even more difficult to see. The caller was worried for their safety.
Police arrived at the scene, identifying the pair who they found were trying to hitchhike to Prince Rupert. The man was intoxicated and also determined to have a warrant on his name. He was arrested and taken to the station to sober up. The women was given a ride back to Terrace and dropped off at a safe place.
Wrong address, no theft
Packages were reportedly stolen from a home in the Horseshoe area of Terrace on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 10. A woman was observed on camera taking the packages and departing. However it was determined the packages had been delivered to the wrong address. All parties involved were made aware of the misunderstanding.
Semi driver given warning
On Thursday, Sept. 12, a provincial commercial vehicle and safety officer stopped a semi travelling at 20km an hour over the speed limit on the Kalum Lake Road.
The officer also noticed an odour of liquor on the driver and called police. A breath sample was taken and resulted in a warning. The man was arrested, issued a driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded. The driver was given a courtesy ride into town.
Collision in Thornhill
The failure of one driver to stop at an intersection caused a collision between two vehicles on September 15, 2024, near Clark Street and Paquette Ave. in Thornhill. A white car failed to stop, colliding with a black pickup truck which was travelling north bound on Clark Street.
Significant damage was visible on the car while the pickup received less damage. The driver of the car was issued a violation ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign and the vehicle was towed from scene. No injuries were reported at the collision.
