Terrace RCMP responded to 380 calls between Oct. 4 and Oct. 17. Below are a few highlights.
Impaired driving after night at Thornhill Pub
Terrace RCMP received a report of an impaired driver leaving the Thornhill Pub in a pickup truck. The vehicle was then located at a different establishment in Thornhill where a woman driver and a man were still inside it. When an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, the woman driver attempted to leave the vehicle quickly, continuing to try to evade the officer when they tried to stop her. Eventually, the officer was able to conduct a breathalyser test, which provided the result of a warning.
Once the commotion stopped, another began when the man was arrested for attempting to fight an officer. The woman was issued a 3-day vehicle impound, immediate driving prohibition, and a violation ticket for having no driver's licence. She was released on scene and a ride came to pick her up. The man was released later once he was sober.
Romance scam turns into extortion
On Oct. 12, a man reported that he had become involved with who he believed to be a woman on social media, exchanging intimate photos, after which that person threatened to post the photos online if the man did not make a payment. Police believe the account to be fake and advised the man not to send payment. Terrace RCMP are warning the public to exercise caution when sharing photos online as scams like this are becoming more common.
Traffic stop turns to trafficking investigation
At 8:23 p.m. on Oct. 8, police conducted a routine traffic stop of a pickup truck in the area of Sparks Street. and Lakelse Avenue. The officer found drug paraphernalia inside, leading to the woman driver being arrested for possession of a controlled substance. A vehicle search was conducted where additional items were located that are consistent with drug trafficking. An investigation is ongoing and additional information may be released when available.
School zone speeding
On Oct. 10, RCMP observed a Ford Mustang travelling south on Sparks St. at more than 70km an hour through two school zones. The officer conducted a traffic stop where they found that the driver did not have a valid B.C. driver's licence. The driver received two violation tickets for speeding in a school zone and driving without a licence, amounting to more than $500 in fines.
