Police Briefs: Arson suspected in 4-vehicle fire

Terrace RCMP responded to 400 calls between Sept. 13 and Sept. 26. Below are a few highlights.

4-vehicle arson fire suspected

Police received a report about four vehicles on fire on the 5000 block of Pohle Ave on Sept. 26 in the early morning. Terrace Fire put out the fire and no injuries were reported. Police are investigating the incident as arson. Terrace RCMP ask that if anyone has information or video footage from the area, please contact them at 250-638-7400.

Hit and run

On Sept. 16, police received a report in the afternoon of a hit and run on the 4600 block of Lakelse Ave involving three vehicles. A male driver of a Chevy Impala reportedly backed into a Jeep Wrangler with enough force that the Wrangler hit a second vehicle behind it. The Impala driver fled the scene, but was later located in the Thornhill area. He admitted to the collision and was issued a violation ticket for failing to remain at the scene, driving without due care and attention and failing to wear a seat belt. No injuries were reported during this incident.

Speeding on Highway 113 results in ticket and impound

Around noon on September 26, a vehicle was observed to be driving 141 km per hour in an 80 km per hour zone on Highway 13 near Rosswood. He was swerving lanes to pass vehicles as well. An RCMP officer conducts a traffic stop, issued a ticket for excessive speeding, and a 7-day vehicle impound. The driver's father was contacted to give him a ride home.

Running stop sign causes collision

A man driving a white car ran a stop sign at the intersection of Clark Street and Paquette Ave on Sept. 15, colliding with a black pickup track which was travelling north bound on Clark Street. No injuries were reported and the white car was damaged significantly more than the pick up.  He was issued a violation ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign and his car was towed from the scene.

Vehicle towed after driving without insurance

RCMP were conducting routine patrols in downtown Terrace near midnight on Sept. 24 when they observed a vehicle drive approximately 85 km per hour in a 50 km per hour area on Kalum Street..The officer conducted a traffic stop, finding that the vehicle's insurance expired in 2023. The driver was ticketed and arrested for driving without insurance. The driver's vehicle was towed back to her residence.
