Police Briefs: 2 suspects sought in vehicular arson incident

The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 188 calls between Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, 2024. Below are a few highlights.

Two suspects sought in vehicular arson incident

Terrace RCMP have released a photo of two people they wish to speak with in connection with a fire on the 5000 Block of Pohle on the Southside which severely damaged four vehicles in the early morning hours of Sept. 26, 2024.

Nearby buildings were also damaged in which RCMP believe to be arson.

Both police and the Terrace Fire Department were at the scene.

Terrace RCMP ask that if anyone has information or video footage from the area, please contact them at 250-638-7400.

Impaired driver crashes into pole

On Sept. 28, police received a report at approximately 3 a.m. of a woman who had crashed her vehicle into a telephone pole and parked vehicle. The woman was taken to the hospital where she was medically cleared.

Afterwards, the officer conducted an impaired investigation where it was found that she was impaired. The woman was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, her vehicle was impounded and she was given a 90-day notice of driving prohibition. She also received violation tickets for driving contrary to her driver's licence.

House arrest terms violated

While conducting routine patrols on Sept. 30 around 1 a.m., police located a man on the 2900 block of Sparks Street who was known to be on conditions of a probation order which included a nightly curfew. The probation order originated from an offence related to property crime.

The man was arrested and eventually released after a new charge was approved for breaching his probation. He was also given new conditions of a release order.

Reminder to lock up valuables

Terrace RCMP remind people to always keep doors, outbuildings and vehicles locked, as well as valuables out of sight. On Sept. 30, they received a report at approximately 3:30 a.m. of a man sneaking around a property in the area of Spring Creek Drive.

Police arrived at the scene, but the man was no where to be found. Nothing was reported to be missing from the property.

Logging truck rollover causes gas leak

Around 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 3, Terrace RCMP were called to the scene of a logging truck that had rolled over on Highway 37 and crashed into a natural gas down pipe at Pacific Northern Gas' Mount Layton Hot Springs station, causing an active gas leak.

Highway 37 was blocked off in both directions for several hours while PNG's emergency response team safely stopped the flow of gas to the damaged pipe by 4:20 p.m.

The driver of the logging truck was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries
