First baby of 2025 born at Kysen Regional Hospital in Terrace

The 2025 new year baby of Terrace's new hospital goes by the name of Maverick

Baby boy Maverick Parnell was born at Ksyen Regional Hospital, Terrace on January 2, 2025, at 6:26 p.m., making him the first baby to be born at the new hospital this year. Born to parents Annabelle and Henessy Parnell of Terrace, he weighed in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces.

"We decided to name him Maverick specifically for its meaning, which is, 'An independent man who avoids conformity.' We loved this meaning because we want him to grow up as someone who always stands up for what's right, even if people around him disagree," said Annabelle.

"There is strength to standing up for the truth and being a leader in a world that often just follows whatever is trending."

Maverick is welcomed by his big brother Rexton Parnell, who is nearly 20 months old.

"Our experience at Kysen was wonderful! Every doctor and nurse we saw helped us in such an encouraging way," Annabelle said.

"They offered us all our options and respected every decision we made. I got to have my dream labour and delivery. It was also wonderful that the new rooms are so comfortable, this made the whole visit from start to finish really pleasant."

"We were so surprised to have had the new year baby because it was January 2nd, but it is so special."
