Light rain helped dampen a small fire north of Terrace July 16.
And more than 25 B.C. Wildfire Service firefighters worked yesterday to run hoses along the front of the Pontoon Creek Fire for effective water delivery.
First reported July 15 at five hectares and then at 8.2 hectares, the fire is south of Kitsumkalum Lake, approximately 20 kilometres north of Terrace.
A first response by a four-person initial attack crew with the assistance of one helicopter was followed up by an air tanker group and two more helicopters.
A unit crew of more than 20 people was also assigned.
The fire is believed to be human-caused.
The Hart Farm Recreation Site, the Kitsumkalum Provincial Park, Red Sand Lake Recreation Site and the Ackerman Point Recreation Site, all of which were previously closed as a precautionary measure, are open once again.
