All schools in the Coast Mountains School District 82, excluding Bear Valley School in Stewart, will be closed today due to poor conditions of highways, city streets and sidewalks.

The closure, announced on the District website this morning, follows a decision made by school district staff yesterday to keep all schools open with regular bus service.

Katherine McIntosh, Superintendent of Schools, said that school district staff were in continual contact with the Ministry of Transportation to monitor and assess the conditions on all bus routes throughout the day yesterday.

Parents who were concerned about road conditions were welcome to pick up their children at school instead, according to McIntosh.

Terrace saw 56 cm of snow fall within the past two days, adding to the already sizeable accumulation of 171 cm of snow since January 29.

District staff are expected to report to work, but are advised to stay home if they feel unsafe travelling to their school location.
