Together with the Skeena Valley Seniors Society, the City of Terrace is hosting an information session for seniors on Friday, April 11.

This free, interactive event will include an opportunity for seniors to share and discuss the things that impact their lives.

"Come, listen and share your voice," said Diana Penner, president of the Skeena Valley Seniors Society.

The session begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Arena Banquet Room. It will last until 2:00 p.m. with a light lunch being served.

Several service providers will speak, including representatives from the Terrace Hospice Society, Volunteer Terrace, 'Ksan Society, Happy Gang, Northern Health and others. They will share what they do for seniors and what they have coming up.

"The City aims to support, promote and offer programming for all our community members, so we were pleased to participate when the Skeena Valley Seniors approached us with the opportunity to co-host this valuable information session," said the City of Terrace.

Staff from the City's Parks, Recreation and Culture department will be there on behalf of the City to discuss their seniors programming. One representative will speak about programming offered at the Terrace and District Aquatic Centre, and another will speak about the programming at the Terrace Sportsplex.

"City staff will be available to answer questions about current and planned programming, as well as explore new possibilities and feedback," they wrote.

The City efforts to support seniors stems from their Strategic Plan for Advocacy for Seniors, which was adopted by City Council in July 2024. This plan supports the City's 2023-2025 Corporate Strategic Plan as well, in which one of its goals is to promote seniors' wellness.

The plan is available on the City of Terrace website at www.terrace.ca/city-hall/mayor-council under "More Council Initiatives/Strategic Plan and Strategic Focus areas.
