Water levels drain your wallet

Al Lehmann talks about the impact our water use has on nature in his column of June 20, 2024 ("Keep your eye on Skeena River flow").

For us in B.C. we have a snow pack that is only half of normal. How often did you shovel snow last winter?

We have also far less rain than normal, as much as less than half over the long term. The Terrace airport normal is 557.3mm or 22 inches from January to June. This year it was only 286.6mm.

While we have had near normal temperatures, the lack of moisture does not look good for forest fires.

And the lack of moisture will also affect our food supplies ranging from crops of food for us and lesser crops such as hay for animals.

People can water their gardens, but most farmers can not. We can also expect low water to have an impact on fish.

So if you think drought and low water will have no impact on most of us,
watch out for the impact on your wallet.
