This year's winner of the Rotary Club of Terrace's annual duck race is Granisle resident Doris Munger whose bright yellow plastic entrant crossed the finish line first Aug. 5, 2024.

It and a myriad of other ducks were dropped from a Canadian Helicopters helicopter near the first bridge crossing the side channel of the Skeena River leading east of Terrace at Ferry Island shortly after 10 a.m. that day.

Waiting downstream at a finish line stretched across the side channel from just south of Walmart to Ferry Island were a flotilla of boats carrying net-wielding Rotarians ready to not only scoop up the first duck but three others, resulting in prizes for their owners.

Nicole Lavoie won a helicopter ride courtesy of Canadian Helicopters while Laura Fandry claimed a $500 Safeway gift certificate and Annette Desch a $500 Canadian Tire gift certificate.

All ducks were safely retrieved and carefully bundled away in preparation for next year's event.

One of the signature events of Terrace's annual Riverboat Days celebration, the duck race drew a crowd of onlookers who watched the ducks tumble into the water and then float downstream.

Revenues from the race go to a variety of Rotary projects.
