Ethan Davey, a 20-year-old from Terrace, B.C., has won MVP of the Doug Birks Division in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
The 6'3 forward was the division's top scorer, netting 25 goals with 33 assists for 58 points in 43 games. Davey played an impressive 18:24 per game, showcasing his reliable two-way play through his plus-27 rating and his play on the penalty kill, where he led the league with six shorthanded points.
His ability to contribute in key situations made him an important part of the 100 Mile House Wranglers' turnaround this season. They were the worst team in the league last season, winning 11 games and finishing with 27 points. This season, the Wranglers finished first with 57 points, winning 25 games and the Doug Birks Division regular season championship.
Davey has consistently grown as a player over the past three seasons, upping his point totals from 21 (11 g, 10 a) in his first season, 34 (23 g, 11 a) in his second season and now 58 points in the 2024-25 season.
"Having the experience of the past two seasons definitely helped me succeed this year," said Davey. "Developing my hockey IQ over the course of my junior career helped me become the player i am."
"In the offseason, I specifically wanted to increase my speed and explosiveness to maximize time and space, with and with out the puck," he added. "This year, my playmaking ability was better than the last just due to the players around me, which was great to have. Other than tiny details, my game has never really changed. Having the biggest heart and passion for the game has driven me to be the player I am."
"My goal in hockey is to play at the highest level possible. Next step is college hockey and after that, maybe look into play over seas professionally."
