Terrace's Ferry Island shoreline ranks as one of cleanest

TERRACE IS one of the cleanest areas in the country when it comes to shorelines.

TERRACE IS one of the cleanest areas in the country when it comes to shorelines.

That's the word from the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup whose results were recently released for the 2010 cleanup.

On the list of least littered shorelines, Terrace comes in fourth with 0.36 kg / km of waste collected along the shoreline at Ferry Island.

And we're the only city in the province on the least littered shoreline top five list, although there are other places in the province  that are on the most littered shoreline list.

Maple Ridge came in second with 3,200 kg/km of waste collected at Kanaka Creek and Kanaka Creek Regional Park; Delta came in fourth with 1,200 kg/km collected at Tom Hopkins Ravine Park and Surrey was in fifth spot, also with 1,200 kg/km collected at Brownsville Bar Park along Fraser River.

This year's Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup takes place Sept. 17 to 25.
