Frozen Mounties were in abundance at the M.K. Bay Marina in Kitimat on Sunday, Feb. 19. Terrace Sgt. Terry Gillespie joined the Kitimat RCMP in responding to Prince Rupert RCMP’s Polar Dip challenge to support Special Olympics BC.
“We’ll get the plunge done and we’ll go from there,” were Kitimat Sgt. Rob Gardner’s last words before before joining his fellow officers jumping into some exceptionally cold waters. The event raised $1,855 for the B.C. Special Olympics.
Kitimat Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue were there to supervise in case of emergency.
“I want to just challenge the rest of our hub, so the Kitimat- Stikine hub for the RCMP, I’m putting the challenge out to all you guys,” Gardner added.
The Polar Dip is an annual event that has become a popular fundraiser for charities across the country. Participants pledge to raise money for their chosen charity and then take a dip in a nearby body of water, usually during the winter months.
