Residents of Stewart celebrated the opening of the Spirit Square located at Memorial park, during the annual 6th annual Bear Festival.
City Councillor Galina Durant cut the ribbon and marked the official opening of the square.
Mayor Angela Brand Danuser, said the square is now completed and includes landscaping as well as a concession, covered performance area and a picnic shelter.
“The park really is the heart of the community, and an amazing public space for all the citizens of Stewart and visitors to enjoy” said Mayor Danuser said.
The Square was created as a part of a $20-million B.C. Spirit Squares program, which helps create or improve outdoor public meeting/celebration spaces based on 50/50 cost-sharing with local governments. For more information about B.C. Spirit Squares, visit www.spiritsquares.gov.bc.ca online.
