Seniors who gathered April 11 for an information session with a variety of local agencies say a brochure or newsletter will help keep them informed about services and activities.
The consensus that a specific information source would be helpful came when more than 100 seniors heard from 12 different agencies and services providers at an April 11 session hosted by the Skeena Valley Seniors Society and the City of Terrace.
"Presentations were made by the Greater Terrace Beautification Society, Red Cross, City of Terrace, Food out Front, Happy Gang, Terrace Regional Hospice, Kermode, Ksan, Men's Shed, Northern Health, Terrace Food Association and Volunteer Terrace," said seniors society president Diana Penner.
She said seniors also listed a lack of consistent health care support, the need for less red tape for services, more kinds of housing choices, a dedicated local seniors advocate, a bus service for monthly events, an expanded public transport schedule, a seniors resource centre, more learning opportunities and honorariums for volunteers who help seniors.
Specific to a brochure or newsletter, Penner said a listing of retail and other discounts for seniors would be helpful.
While seniors felt a brochure or newsletter topped the most needed list, more housing options was second on the list followed by the need for a dedicated seniors centre, Penner shared.
