To help interest children in reading, a new visitor has been coming to the library to have young people read to him.
Read to Ollie lets children aged kindergarten to Grade 4 read to golden retriever Ollie for a 15-minute session in this February and March.
Coast Mountains School District district literacy coordinator Anne Dopson brings Ollie to the library as part of the R.E.A.D., which stands for Reading Education Assistant Dog, program.
The idea is to help children become better readers by reading to Ollie, says Dopson.
It's a trial project right now at the library but hopefully will become a regular program, she adds.
Students in the schools also read to Ollie, who is an official school dog for Suwilaawks Community School, Cassie Hall and Thornhill Primary.
The next times for Read to Ollie are 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. February 24, March 2 and 9.
