Crowds stampeded to the RCMP’s historic Musical Ride yesterday for two 30-minute shows at the Thornhill Community Grounds.
Dressed in their Red Serge, a troop of 32 Mounties demonstrated several complicated figures and fluid drills choreographed to music at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The show has been a Canadian tradition since 1876. Despite the hot summer weather, cars filled the parking lot on the fairgrounds to see the performances. The last time the RCMP Musical Ride came to Thornhill was in 2008.
After the show, the Mounties moved closer to the arena’s perimeter to give people a chance to say hello and pet the horses before they headed back to the stables. The two performances were hosted by the Skeena Valley Fall Fair, the Totem Saddle Club and the Terrace Shamrock 4-H Club.
The RCMP Musical ride now heads to Smithers to complete its northwest tour with two shows at the Bulkley Valley Exhibition Grounds at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday.
