The Terrace District Community Services Society’s afternoon soup kitchen has a new location.
Meals will now be served closer to TDCSS facilities at 4530 Lakelse Avenue Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dubbed Bob’s Soup Shack, the spot will serve as a resource for the Homelessness Outreach Program as well, offering health services, job supports and access to computers.
“I think having a safe place where you can find a nutritious meal and some services is needed for our community, and that’s what this is designed to do,” said Michael McFetridge, TDCSS executive director.
TDCSS is able to offer the program in a recent direct partnership with the Kermode Friendship Society and in collaboration with the Ksan Housing Society. The soup shack has been open since April, but held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday afternoon after finishing touches were completed. The kitchen serves between 20 to 80 people a day.
“I’m really happy that we’re able to continue the good work that we do with the soup kitchen, and we’re able to do it because of the excellent partnerships we have in the community,” McFetridge said.
The program, funded by Thornhill resident Bob Erb and TDCSS, was previously run out of the All Nations Centre at 3312 Sparks Street for years but moved to this new building so that it could be closer to the organization’s main facilities, according to McFetridge.

Next month the soup kitchen will be looking for more cooks to help out. If interested contact Brenda Ramsay, TDCSS community coordinator, at 250-635-0378.
Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly identified Bob Erb as a Terrace resident. He lives in Thornhill.
