In the days leading up to Halloween, the Terrace Midget Reps hockey team will be selling an array of high-flying, colourful fireworks to help fundraise for travel costs this season.
A temporary depot has been set up inside a trailer in the Skeena Mall parking lot, across from the Husky Gas station. Once a year, a city bylaw permits the sale of fireworks the week before Halloween.
From noise-making cherry bombs to multi-shot cakes, this fundraiser is the one time Terrace’s Midget Rep hockey team can raise money. Their goal is to raise at least $12,000 for the upcoming six competitions held outside of Terrace this season.

If the team beats out Kitimat, Smithers and Prince Rupert for the Northwest zone title this February, they could move on to represent the North again in Cranbrook, B.C. for the provincial championships in March.
Hockey dad Paul Ebeling says each weekend costs approximately $5,000 to cover food, travel, hotel and other expenses. He says on the fundraiser’s third day, they had raised around $3,500 for the team.
“This is our big fundraiser and these boys, when they leave town, they represent Terrace very well,” Ebeling says. Most recently, the team travelled to Quesnel for a game.
“They show up at the arena, they’re well behaved, dressed in a suit and tie…Terrace is always well known for their sportsmanship.”
The depot is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day until Halloween.
