AS WE head into the fall season here in Terrace, your President and her executive would like to thank all the members who made the effort to visit the Branch throughout the summer months.

Your support is appreciated, and you have helped to keep our operation open, and in a reasonably healthy position.

You can now get your early bird membership for 2012; unfortunately we have had to raise the membership fee to $50 due to increases in what we have to send to Dominion and the BC/Yukon Command. The branch is getting none of the increase.

The next few months look to be a busy time, starting with Steak Night on Friday 7th October; also that same evening starting at 9 p.m., Steve Little will be on hand to supply the music for an ‘80s night, which will run until about 2 a.m. and admission is by donation.

The Saturday afternoon meat draws have picked up these last few weeks, so come on in out of the rain and try to win yourself a great meat package; first draw is at 4:30 p.m. going until 6 p.m.

Any members who are interested in competing in this year’s Legion Sports please note that notices of venues for Curling, Darts, Cribbage and 8 Ball Pool are posted at the Branch, complete with dates of Zone, Provincial and Dominion play downs.

If you enter any of these events you must be prepared to go all the way to the Dominion Playoffs.

The October General Meeting takes place in the Branch on Tuesday the 11th, starting at 7 p.m.

This is a new time, and I know a number of members missed the best part of the September meeting by showing up at the old time of 8 p.m.

We are now looking for an executive for the 2012 year. Elections take place at the December meeting. If you are interested in becoming an executive member, please leave your name and phone number with the bar staff in the branch. We do need some new blood and new ideas.

Starting on October 11th, we will be out around town canvassing the local businesses for donations towards our Poppy Fund, and later in the month we will be distributing Poppies around town. It’s a busy time and anyone who can find some time to help, please contact me at the Branch or call me at 250-638-8627. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you to Nelson, David, Reg, Rick, Buster and Linda for the cleaning of the Poppy trays.

Notices will be posted in the Branch later in October with regards to people needed to man the Wal-Mart Table and the liquor store in early November.

Anyone who would be willing to attend one of our local schools to give a short address at their Remembrance Services, please contact me.

The next Veterans’ Dinner will be held on Saturday 29th October, and dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

The change in the day is to help you to join Cmde Otto Lindstrom in celebrating his 95th birthday. Steve Little will be supplying some old time music for this occasion, and asked that you all bring your dancing shoes and stick around for a while to dance and help Cmde Otto enjoy an evening with family and his fellow Comrades as he celebrates his birthday.

There will be no Veterans dinner in November or December; however, there will be the usual Remembrance Day dinner on November 11th. Tickets will be available later in October for this occasion.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
