A WEEKEND billed as a Spring Bling Fling has generated a $1,000 cheque for the BC Professional Firefighters' Burn Fund.

The weekend was hosted by the Skeena Sassy Scarlets with guests from Prince Rupert, Smithers, Kitimat and Fraser Lake, all wearing distinctive red hats and all connected to the Red Hat organization.

Topping the March 24-27 weekend was a diamond dinner March 26 but events also included a meet and greet and two tea sittings at the George Little House.

Five Terrace firefighters, in dress uniforms, escorted ladies to their seats at the diamond dinner.

In return, the Skeena Sassy Scarlets decided that any proceeds should go to the burn fund.

The amount was topped up by the Fraser Lake ladies, called the Fraser Lake Red Hautes,” said Scarlet Queen Sharon Silva.

The Fraser Lake contribution came from that community's diamond dinner table winning the evening's 50/50 draw.

Silva said the return donation from Fraser Lake was prompted because the burn fund had helped the daughter of one of the people attending from that community.

Silva is the Queen of the Scarlets and June Curé is the treasurer. Claire Irwin was the chair of the weekend.

Jeff Minhinnick, Colin Willoner, Lawrence Stella, Dave Jephson and Bill Warcup were the firefighter escorts at the dinner.
