WHILE YOU'RE out looking for gifts and thinking about helping others in the spirit of the season, there's a piece of artwork available to buy that matches both of those ideas.
Artist Joe Mandur Jr. has donated one of his works in a limited edition to TDCSS Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Terrace as a fundraiser.
In the print, called "Nurturing Mentors," the Raven feeds and nurtures the young, which follows the Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentors inspiring youth to reach their full potential by feeding their minds, hearts and lives.
The money raised from the limited edition print sales goes towards local Big Brothers and Big Sisters programs for children.
And when a print is bought, the buyer also gets a gift certificate for 15 per cent off framing and, for the first five that are sold, a $75 gift certificate, both from Terrace Frame Design.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters focusses on children age six to 12 from single parent families, who have less than once a month contact with a male role model for the Big Brother program, and/or other parent for the Big Sister program.
Along with traditional community-based mentoring, there is the Kids 'n' Kops summer week-long day camp.
This fall, a seven session group program called Go Girls! was piloted here.
In January will be the introduction of a group program for boys (Game On) and the return of the in-school mentoring program, a commitment of one hour per week.
