A MEMBER of the Regional District board was honoured with a Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal at the monthly board meeting Aug. 10.
Hazelton mayor Alice Maitland received the award at the beginning of the meeting in front of all the board members and members of the public who were there.
Canadians who have made a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region or community within the country are being awarded the medal across the country.
The new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada.
During the year of celebrations, 60,000 deserving Canadians will be recognized.
