A Nass Valley participant in the Terrace Riverboat Days parade has claimed first place in 2024 edition which drew a multitude of observers lining Lakelse Ave. under a blue skies and bright sun the morning of Aug. 3.
Judges chose the Gingolx Majorettes and Gingolx Concert Band from the Nass Valley as the overall winner, a distinction which means they will lead the parade next year.
The Free Elements dance group came first in the bands and dancers category while Atlantis Taekwondo was first in the commercial category and the Caledonia Grad Class of 1984 was named best in the non-commercial category.
The parade was one of the most varied in several years, featuring music, colour and exuberance on the part of those in it and those observing it.
The first float in the shape of a canoe represented the 'Every Child Matters' theme from the Indian Residential Schools Survivors Society.
Close behind were the Terrace Pipes and Drums celebrating 50 years of music and performance.
Several floats had participants more than willing to spray the crowd with water to help deal with the sun and warm temperatures.
The Thornhill Volunteer Fire Department once again displayed its inventory of vehicles and this year, LNG Canada and its contractors provided a substantial presence.
One of the more popular features was the last vehicle, a Terrace Fire Department truck as it had a firefighter walking behind, spraying a fine mist of water over appreciative followers.
