THE CITY and Thornhill had new young fire chiefs for a day this past Tuesday.

Ashanti Fowler, 9, from Uplands Elementary and Dawson Lewis, 9, from Thornhill Elementary were chosen from entries in the annual Fire Chief for a Day contest.

They began their day when fire engines from the city and Thornhill picked them up at their schools and took them to Mcdonalds for breakfast with city officials mayor Dave Pernarowski, Terrace fire chief John Klie, Thornhill fire chief Wes Patterson, and RCMP inspector Dana Hart.

Afterward, they went to the city fire hall to see what firefighters do, how the fire engine works and a demonstration of how foam is used to douse flames.

Then they took a tour of the RCMP detachment where Cpl. Clint Lange showed them around the various offices and prisoner cells. He even put handcuffs on them and took their fingerprints.

Fire Chief for a Day is part of Fire Prevention Week.
