THE SALVATION Army is asking for the public's help to ensure its emergency food bank shelves aren't empty the next time its open.
The shelves have been emptier than usual, says Major Rosa Moulton of the Salvation Army here.
“They were bare yesterday. I had to go buy some food just so we'd have some for the next opening which is the 29th,” said Moulton Oct. 23, referring to the food bank shelves being empty.
Schools always bring in a lot of food with their drives but with schools closing in the past two years, there's not as much coming in.
The Sally Ann's emergency food bank is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. year-round, except for the weeks that the Terrace Churches Food Bank is open.
Moulton is asking people to organize “a creative food drive” to help out.
“We fill the shelves in the food bank,” she says about how much food she's looking to receive.
“We try to make it (food) last as long as we can before we purchase it.”
Moulton also says businesses or individuals can sponsor a local family for Christmas.
