VOLUNTEERS GATHERED to distribute daffodils for the local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society today.

People who ordered the bunches of flowers to help support the cancer society will have them delivered during the day today, some by volunteers wearing t-shirts with a large daffodil on it and the words 'Join the Fight' in large letters.

Tomorrow is the start of the first national daffodil campaign, which was piloted in B.C. last year.

People are asked to join the fight against cancer and show support by wearing a daffodil pin in April and particularly on Daffodil Day April 27.

The cancer society saw 400,000 people province-wide wear a daffodil pin last year and hopes to triple that number in the province this year.

Donations for the pins go to cancer support services, transportation services and lodge accommodations, and limited financial assistance for treatment-related transportation and accommodation.

Society volunteers and staff run support programs, provide cancer prevention information, advocate for healthier communities and fundraise for cancer research.

Pins can be purchased at several local locations, including the BC liquor store, Chevron Town Pantry, Northern Savings Credit Union, Shoppers Home Health, the Terrace Inn liquor store, Boston Pizza, A&W and Scotiabank.
