Real estate numbers stay steady

REAL ESTATE sales and prices in the northwest remain virtually the same as last year at this time.

In the first quarter of this year, realtors here sold 43 properties for a value of $7.4 million, says the BC Northern Real Estate Board about Multiple Listing Service (MLS) sales.

Those numbers included 24 single family homes, four parcels of vacant land and five manufactured homes, which have changed hands since January 1 and as of March 31, 201 properties are up for sale in the Terrace area.

Compare that to the first quarter of 2010, when realtors sold 45 properties for a value of $8.3 million.

As of March 31, 2010, 259 properties were on sale in the area.

Kitimat realtors sold 37 properties worth $5 million compared to last year’s first quarter of 14 sales worth $2.1 million

At the end of this March, 131  properties were available for sale through MLS® in the Kitimat area – close to the 138 properties from the first quarter of 2010.

Prince Rupert saw 25 properties, all single family properties, worth $4.3 million sell in the beginning of this year.

In 2010, those numbers were 35 properties worth $6.3 million, with 231 properties for sale as of March 31 that year.

At the end of this year’s first quarter, there were 231 properties for sale in the area.

Overall the BC Northern Real Estate Board reported 826 sales with a value of $174,936,681 through the MLS in the first quarter of 2011.

This compares with 887 sales worth $180,821,772 to the end of March, 2010.

As of March 31, there were 4,165 properties of all types available for purchase through the MLS compared to 4,347 at this time last year.
