The 27th annual Tour de Smithers got off to a rainy start the weekend of June 17th, but cleared up by the end of the second lap.

“Everyone got pretty muddy,” said rider Vincent Drouin, who finished first for the full 66 kilometre stretch.

Thirteen cyclists participated in total, taking three 22 kilometre loops around Tyhee Lake.

Terrace was well represented at the event, with Drouin, Willie Muller, Ernie Hidber, Andrew Simpson, Dan Fisher, Michael Bruce, and Ron Haws making the trek to Smithers.

Usual Terrace standout Muller experienced a flat tire and did not finish the race.

The event was organized by Smithers’ McBike owner Peter Krause.

“Peter is a very respected cyclist in this neck of the woods,” said cyclist Michael Bruce.

The extremely tight race saw participants finishing within minutes of each other.
