Terrace's bantam rep team is now the best in B.C.

The rep team won the tier three provincial gold title in Smithers this morning.

The final game of the tournament was at 11 a.m., with Terrace facing off against Quesnel.

Terrace started out strong, scoring the first goal of the game, and by the end of first period Terrace was up 4-0.

The team kept up the momentum, and by the end of the second Terrace had a 7-0 lead.

Quesnel got its first goal in the third, but was unable to recover and Terrace won the finals, and the provincial title with a final score of 9-2.

Dave Jephson, trainer for the team, said all of the players are extremely happy, and are currently relishing in the win.

They were focused, [and] they were doing what the coaches were telling them to do,” he said, adding that all of the players had been in this position of provincial gold before and not walked away with it.

Everything came together for the week,” said coach Jesse Schroeder. “We were building up for the week and we had a game plan and everyone contributed.”

The final game almost didn't happen for Terrace; the team was down 5-3 in the third period of the semi-finals against Nelson.

Jephson said that was when the players realized they would have to dig in and dig deep, which they did, eventually winning the game 8-5.

I'm just so proud of these guys, they worked hard all year,” said Lynne Nordstom, president for the Terrace Minor Hockey Association.

They totally dominated the game.”

The bantam's will be arriving home to the Terrace sportsplex at 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in welcoming the team home and congratulating the players on their win is encouraged to come out.
