In a crushing defeat last night at the Terrace sportsplex, the River Kings skated away empty handed after a 8-1 loss to the Smithers Steelheads in game one of round two of the CIHL playoffs.
Smithers started off strong and didn't let up, scoring ten minutes into the first.
River Kings' captain Steve Cullis put the Kings on the scoreboard a minute and a half later, but two more goals from Smithers sent the teams into the second period with a score of 3-1.
The second period saw three goals more from the Steelheads, and the third was more of the same with Smithers scoring twice more for a final result of 8-1 for the Steelheads.
“We just didn't come prepared to play,” said Cullis after the match.
The River Kings and the Steelheads will meet up again next weekend in Smithers for game two in a best-out-of-three series.
“We're just going to regroup and play the way we have the last couple weeks and turn out a better effort, ” Cullis said of next weekend's game.
