Here are some TORCA members out for a group ride July 14.

The Terrace Off Road Cycling Association will be hosting its annual Skeena River Challenge Sunday, August 7.

The road race will start from the Jim Ciccone Centre in Prince Rupert and continue 143 km to Terrace.

An extra leg of the race will take cyclists for a 17 km ride on Ridley Island and bring the total kilometers cycled to 160, making the race a “century race” as it will span 100 miles.

Recreation riders will depart from Prince Rupert at 9 a.m., and racers will leave at 10 a.m.

This year the race will finish in front of the Ministry of Transportation offices on Keith Ave. This change is to avoid turning at Frank St. and Hwy16, an intersection that organizer Michael Bruce says has been deteriorating for years.

Bruce says the focus this year is on participation as well as competition and that recreational and competitive entry fees have been reduced.

Motorists are asked to watch for eastbound cyclists from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the race day.
